Viet Nam Gets a Phone Call

The first grade at Bishop Larkin Catholic School has picked up where the third grade left off. They explored the emails from the third grade exchange, studied photos and then on a Sunday night when they had no school the next day made a video phone call the the Vietnamese class.

The experience is one we'll all remember forever. The call contained a lot of single word answers to start, but thing picked up when the Vietnamese class sang happy birthday to one of hte Aermican students.

The video phone call is about an hour long. You can find it at

The students are collaborating on a book entitled, "Viet Nam Gets a Phone Call".

To whom it may concern,

My name is Charlotte Nguyen, and I am contacting you on the behalf of Great Eastern Life Vietnam. We are the largest and oldest Singaporean life insurance firm, and August 26th, 2010, will mark our 102nd anniversary. Although we have locations throughout Asia, this program will be focused in Vietnam, and I am contacting you on behalf of our Ho Chi Minh City office.

In celebration of our anniversary, we will be launching a new program. This program will first be launched with an arts and crafts competition. Starting on the 26th, children will be able to participate in the competition by visiting local, participating Phuong Nam bookstores, and create their pieces of art with supplies provided by Phuong Nam and Great Eastern Life. The artwork created will then be entered in an auction, and the proceeds will then be donated to various charities and orphanages.

However, this competition is part of Great Eastern’s continuing plans for sustainable development of children and Vietnam’s local society. This program that we are initiating is very different and unique in that we truly want to create changes and make an impact on the lives of the youth. We aim to increase awareness, and create links between charities, schools, businesses, other organizations and people in order to support and sustain this project. In the future, we will be sponsoring events such as workshops and other competitions, that will stimulate, inspire and empower children and people within our community. We would like to collaborate you and the Think About the Children organization to help bring awareness and increase participation in these events. We are looking for your contacts with charities, orphanages and other organizations that you have worked with. Any volunteers or collaboration would be greatly appreciated.
